Wow. God measures our lives by how we love. To say "I am bankrupt without love" or as another translation says "I gain nothing" are very strong words. According to God, we are made to love. Not much else really matters. We often hear this passage quoted at weddings. You know, the whole "love is patient, love is kind" verses ... and while it's not inappropriate in those instances, it's actual purpose is to tell us how we should live our daily lives with all of humanity, not just our spouse.
So are you wondering if you're living a life full of love? Try this little excercise. Look up 1 Corinthians 13 and replace the words "love is" and "it" and substiture your name. By the end, don't you feel like a liar? Love must be central to everything we say and do, otherwise we are bankrupt.
