Description
The American Dream. Have you been sucked in and brain washed by this concept? If I'm being honest, it takes a concentrated effort on my part not to succumb to it. The concept of working hard, achieving much, spending it extravagantly on everything my heart desires because I worked hard, earned it and deserve it, makes sense. It's been engrained in my brain.
Living a backwards life as Jesus calls us to do is RADICAL and CRAZY and HARD. Jesus says blessed are those who mourn, who show humility, who hunger and thirst, who show mercy, who are pure, who are peacemakers, and who are persecuted. I don't know about you, but not many of these things sound like blessings to me, they sound like curses.
I find myself living like a "certain rich man" who had so much abundance he didn't know what to do with it, so he pulled down his barns and made them bigger and then reasoned that since he had so much abundance for so many years he could "eat, drink and be merry" and then that very night, he met the fate of death. God called him a fool. We (Americans) call that good investing.
Jesus said to invest in the hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, and prisoners. He said by investing in them, we are investing in Him. When I finally get to look into the eyes of my Savior, I want him to say "Come on in, I am so glad we get to spend eternity together. You did an awesome job with the time, talents and stuff I gave you on earth! Wait until you see the treasures I have for you here!"
